A Quilt Shop With a Heart: Remember Me Quilt Shop

Nestled in Mountain Home, Arkansas, Remember Me Quilt Shop has earned a special place in the hearts of quilters. Twice crowned the winner of the Local Quilt Shop Contest for the state, this shop has a rich history and a dedicated community.

The journey of Remember Me Quilt Shop began over 30 years ago in Topeka, Kansas. After relocating to Arkansas in the early ’70s and moving through a few different locations, the shop found its permanent home in Mountain Home. In 2012, when the original owner retired, Judy Mahaney purchased the store and continued its legacy of creativity and craftsmanship.

Judy has been a lifelong sewist, specializing in all types of apparel, including wedding dresses. Interestingly, she didn’t get into quilting until she and her husband moved to Arkansas to retire near her “quilting sister.” Before she could even start learning from her sister, the opportunity to buy the local quilt shop arose—and from there, the story of Remember Me Quilt Shop took off. Judy often says that since then, she hasn’t worked a single day. “It’s a blessing to have a reason to get up every morning and the wonderful opportunity to share our days with quilting friends who just happen to be our customers,” she shared.

More Than Just a Quilt Shop

Remember Me Quilt Shop isn’t just a retail space. It’s a community hub, offering an array of sewing machines from brands like Bernina, Pfaff, and Handi Quilter, as well as fabrics from numerous designers, including ByAnnie products. But beyond that, the shop focuses on fostering learning and creativity through regular classes and guest educators. Local quilters can always count on Judy and her staff for support and inspiration.

One customer, Susan, shared a touching story about the shop’s dedication: “One weekend, I miscut my quilt pattern and didn’t have enough fabric to finish. I thought I had purchased the last of the material and was so upset. But when I went into the shop, the staff searched all over and found me a couple of fat quarters so I could complete my project!”

Moments like these highlight the strong sense of camaraderie and customer care for which Remember Me Quilt Shop is known.

A Destination in Itself – Mountain Home

Beyond the shop itself, Mountain Home is a beautiful destination. Known as the Trout Fishing Capital of the World, the town is surrounded by the stunning Ozark Mountains and rivers like the White, Buffalo, and Norfolk, which are perfect for fishing and other water activities. Judy herself is a big fan of the area’s natural beauty, and she often recommends it to anyone who loves outdoor adventures.

For those who live nearby or are planning a trip to Arkansas, Remember Me Quilt Shop is a must-visit. Be sure to check their class calendar ahead of time to see what exciting events or workshops might be available!

Happy stitching!
