Located in America’s Heartland, Graceful Marilyn Quilt Shoppe is a fabric lover’s paradise that brings together creativity, family, and community.

Found in Marshall, Minnesota, this local gem is the brainchild of sisters Michelle Salfer and Heather Rokeh, who turned their lifelong passion for sewing and quilting into a business they could share with their town.

With roots firmly planted in farm life, the sisters grew up immersed in crafting and sewing alongside their mother, Marilyn, who inspired both their creativity and the name of their shop.

When they heard rumors that a beloved local quilt shop was closing, Michelle and Heather saw it as the perfect chance to fulfill their dream. In October 2021, they opened the doors to Graceful Marilyn, choosing to name it after their mother, Marilyn, and Heather’s daughter, Grace; a name around which they wanted to structure their aesthetic.

With over 6,000 square feet of space, the shop is filled to the brim with fabrics, embroidery supplies, quilt kits, patterns, and books. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just dipping your toes into the craft, you’ll find inspiration at every turn.

Customers rave about the incredible selection of materials, from the famous Shannon Cuddle fabric to a stunning wall of blenders, plus a bag-making section that promises to have everything you need. If not, they’ll happily order it in!

Supporting Makers, Building Community

When Michelle and Heather set out to build Graceful Marilyn, they wanted it to be more than just a quilt shop — they strove to build a gathering place for creators of all kinds.

One thing that sets the store apart is its Makers Market, a space within the shop dedicated to showcasing the handmade work of local artisans. From cozy mittens made from upcycled sweaters to goat milk soaps, candles, jewelry, and even handmade dog bandanas by Heather’s daughter, the market celebrates the community’s creative spirit.

Family is the heart of Graceful Marilyn. Alongside sisters Michelle and Heather, you’ll often find Heather’s daughter Grace, their mother Marilyn, father Dan, cousin Dawn, and even Heather’s mother-in-law Helen helping out.

Michelle’s daughter Brianna pitched in as well, painting the store’s unique pond and contributing graphic design work.

The whole family is involved, and beyond that, a talented team of passionate crafters—Marissa, LeeAnn, Cindy, Lori, and Wendy—help keep things running smoothly.

“They have so many different classes and event
going on all the time. They carry beautiful fabric, a wide range to
please everyone. You can just tell how excited they are over
everything they get into their shop!” ~Jeanie

But it’s not just about fabric and supplies. Graceful Marilyn offers regular classes and special events, encouraging crafters of all skill levels to dive into the world of quilting.

Customers love the supportive atmosphere. One customer, Jackie, shared, “I’m a new quilter and they are willing to give advice when needed. They encouraged me to take a class there and now I’m hooked!”

With that kind of encouragement, it’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to this cozy shop.
