Tucked away in bustling Howell, New Jersey, Mouse Creek Quilts is much more than your average quilt shop.
With a history rooted in a humble basement business, it has blossomed into a beloved destination for quilting enthusiasts all over the state.
Mouse Creek Quilts is the proud Regional Winner for New Jersey in the 2024 Local Quilt Shop Contest, and it’s easy to see why.
A Shop that Always has Time for You
It all started back in 2007 when owner Claire Berg began offering longarm quilting services from her basement. In 2008, she took a leap and bought a small quilt shop, relocating it to Howell, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Six years later, Mouse Creek found its current home in the Ideal Plaza, and today, it boasts over 3,000 bolts of fabric from top manufacturers. Beyond quilting fabrics, the shop is a haven for embroiderers, offering high-quality embroidery fabrics and patterns.
“The people that work at Mouse Creek are amazing. It is like shopping with friends
when I shop there… I love this
store!” ~Susan
What really sets Mouse Creek apart is the service. Claire’s amazing team—Chris, Jeanne, Linda, Lorna, Barbara, Annemarie, and Lori—are known for going above and beyond to help quilters of all levels.
They are a happy bunch of ladies who bring a lot of laughter and fun to the shop. Claire likes to say their class instructors have the patience of a saint! They are truly dedicated to their students and many of them spend additional hours helping their student be successful.
“The first time I ever went there (it was a bit of a drive) I got there about five
minutes to closing. I told the owner that I was sorry to be so late and she
said that she’d stay open as long as I needed. That kindness sold me forever!” ~Dawn
If you’re looking to improve your quilting skills or pick up a new hobby, Mouse Creek Quilts has a class for you. Classes are offered almost daily, catering to all skill levels, and the instructors have a reputation for their patience and willingness to give one-on-one guidance.
Whether you need help selecting fabrics or solving a tricky stitching problem, the team at Mouse Creek has your back. If embroidery or handwork is more your speed, Claire herself teaches many of the needlework classes, so you can learn directly from the expert who built the business.
On top of their fantastic classes, Mouse Creek Quilts gives back to the community by supporting charitable causes like Project Linus and Quilts of Valor. They even made masks during the COVID-19 pandemic for healthcare workers.
