Crazy Woman Quilts, a beloved quilt shop in Glasgow, Montana, has captured hearts and won the title of the Regional Winner for Montana in the 2024 Local Quilt Shop Contest.

But this cozy haven of creativity is more than a titleholder —it’s a testament to one woman’s passion, an eclectic fabric selection, and a welcoming space for quilters near and far.

Crazy Woman Quilts has been part of the fabric of Glasgow since 1999 when it was first established as The Plaid Square by Della Berg-Gardener. Fast forward to 2015, and retired high school teacher Hope Jones-Farr took the reins, bringing her infectious energy and humor to the shop.

In need of space to house her expanding collection, Hope embraced the idea of how crazy she was for opening a quilt shop and came up with the name “Crazy Woman Quilts”—and it’s stuck, becoming a name Glasgow locals and quilting fans love.

With a colorful motto of “If you’re not having fun, you’re probably doing it wrong,” Crazy Woman Quilts stays true to its philosophy, offering top-notch cotton fabrics, trendy Minky, and every quilting notion and gadget a sewist might dream of.

It’s the only quilt shop in four counties to the east, making it a destination for fabric enthusiasts in search of everything from classic patterns to funky modern designs.

helpful with us newbies. She has a fantastic selection of fabric” ~ Rachelle

Events, Sales, and a Little Bit of Crazy

Crazy Woman Quilts is more than just a shop; it’s a lively spot for themed sales and events. The annual “Sometimes a Great Notion Sale” celebrates all quilting tools, inspired by Ken Kesey’s famous novel. And every February, they honor Kurt Cobain’s birthday with discounts on Grunge and flannel fabrics.

A few other fan-favorite events include the “Super Bowl Sale,” the “Got Your Back Sale” (with discounts on batting and backings), and the holiday-inspired “Stuff Your Stocking,” where quilters find a new discounted item each of the twelve days leading up to Christmas.

Of course, each event feels more like a party than a sale, complete with the occasional cake and friendly gathering.

“Owner is crazy! Fabrics are eccentric and employees are helpful!
Biggest little store with small town hospitality!” ~ LeAnn

Hope and her team, including longtime staff members Eileen and Sue, are known for their warm, approachable service.

Whether assisting in finding that perfect fabric or offering up recommendations for a new project, they’re the heart of Crazy Woman Quilts.

They create a space where anyone can be a part of the quilting community, whether they’re seasoned quilters or picking up fabric for the very first time.

The Quilting Community & Glasgow’s Charm

For those visiting Glasgow, a stop at Crazy Woman Quilts promises a warm welcome and a great deal of local charm. Glasgow is a small town with a rich history of homesteaders, ranchers, and even outlaws.

For fall visitors, the Glasgow Scotties’ homecoming celebration features a bagpipe band and a local high school band in tartan kilts. A year-round attraction, Fort Peck Lake offers an impressive range of family-friendly activities, along with the Fort Peck Interpretive Center’s fascinating dinosaur exhibit.

Crazy Woman Quilts may have quirky sales and a lighthearted vibe, but it’s clear the shop and its team are dedicated to offering top-quality fabrics, memorable events, and a true sense of community. For anyone making the journey to the Montana prairie, a visit to this unique quilt shop is more than worth it.
