This fall, Stitch n’ Snip (stitchnsnip.com) celebrates a significant milestone—its 20th anniversary! What began as a humble quilt store in Garden Valley, Idaho, has grown into a cherished destination for quilters near and far. The journey of Stitch n’ Snip is one of passion, community, and continuous growth, marking it as a cornerstone in the quilting world.

The story of Stitch n’ Snip started with Rena Hastings’ dream of creating a quilt shop where enthusiasts could gather, learn, and share their love for quilting. Despite being situated in a small community, the store quickly became a must-visit destination for quilters.

In 2013, they expanded their reach with the launch of a new website, allowing them to connect with quilters beyond Garden Valley. The growth didn’t stop there. In June 2018, they transformed their old classroom into a dedicated space for batik fabrics, and this year, they celebrated the opening of a larger Classroom Studio, complete with a lunchroom and warehouse. This new space allows Stitch n’ Snip to host a variety of workshops and retreats, accommodating even more students and providing a cozy environment for creativity to flourish.

A Quilting Paradise

Nestled in the scenic mountains of Garden Valley, Idaho, Stitch n’ Snip boasts a 2,500 square-foot storefront and a 1,500 square-foot Classroom Studio, offering endless inspiration for quilters. It features the largest selection of batiks in Idaho—over 2,000 bolts—as well as a wide range of cotton fabrics, 108” backings, and unique quilt kits. The variety of fabrics and the welcoming atmosphere have drawn customers from across the state. As one customer, Marie, shared, “Not only do they have an amazing selection of Batiks, wool, Cotton fabrics, Cuddle Fabrics and the most inspiring samples and Kits…but the atmosphere is one of the kind! Whether you are shopping or taking classes, you are welcomed like family. You feel loved and important.”

The sense of community is crucial for Stitch n’ Snip. Margaret, another customer, expressed her gratitude for the support she received, saying, “I had a UFO that I was ready to throw in the garbage because I was so frustrated with how it was coming together. I brought the quilt to Anna, and with her help, that quilt is now on its way to the quilter!” This supportive environment is something Rena and her team strive to maintain, as they believe in creating a safe and fun space for everyone who walks through their doors.

As a Judy Niemeyer-Certified Shop, Stitch n’ Snip specializes in paper piecing, offering unique designs and vibrant colorways. The shop hosts workshops and retreats 5-6 times a year, providing a welcoming retreat for quilters to immerse themselves in their craft. The heart of Stitch n’ Snip lies in its dedicated staff, led by the mother-daughter duo, Rena Hastings and Anna Gardner. With 45 years of experience, Rena’s commitment to inspiring others shines through, while Anna’s love for batiks and paper piecing adds a vibrant touch to the store’s offerings.

When you visit

In the summer, you can enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and hot springs alongside a visit to the shop. During the winter, experience a real-life sleigh ride, cut down your own Christmas tree, and feed local elk.

No matter the season, the Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place to explore, and starting your journey at Stitch n’ Snip in Garden Valley is a must.
