The Sewing House: A Growing Community for Creatives
Located just outside Memphis in Collierville, Tennessee, The Sewing House has been making waves in the sewing and quilting community since it first opened its doors in June 2021. What began as a single location has quickly grown, with a second shop opening in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 2022, and a third location set to open in East Memphis on September 20, 2024.
The Sewing House isn’t just your average fabric store. This modern sewing, quilting, and longarm shop mixes in a touch of the traditional with a growing emphasis on heirloom sewing and knitting. With the purchase of the Lace Cottage brand in 2023 and the addition of Delta Fibre Arts this year, the store has expanded its offerings for knitting and crochet enthusiasts, too.
Founder Jennifer Reith created The Sewing House with one goal in mind: to provide fellow sewing lovers with a welcoming space that offers everything they need to fuel their passion. Judging by the feedback from customers, she’s done exactly that. One customer, Nancy, shared: “This shop has everything you would need or want for your quilting, sewing, embroidery, or heirloom garment projects.”
A Hub for Creativity and Inspiration
With more than 6,000 square feet of space in the Collierville shop, The Sewing House is stocked with quilting fabrics, unique kits, patterns, notions, books, and machines from top brands like BERNINA, Brother, Janome, and Handiquilter. The shop is bright, colorful, and packed with samples, inspiring anyone who steps through the doors. Whether you’re looking for classes or expert advice, The Sewing House has a welcoming team ready to help.
Beyond its wide selection of fabrics and machines, The Sewing House stands out for its community spirit. Supportive spouses even sing the shop’s praises—one, Kenneth, humorously shared: “My wife loves this store and the changes to our checking account really stand out. I’m glad she’s found such a wonderful shop.”
History, music and more!
For those visiting Memphis, stopping by The Sewing House is a must. But don’t miss out on some local highlights while you’re in town. Beale Street is alive with music and famous for its BBQ, and the National Civil Rights Museum offers a powerful experience dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In Collierville itself, Main Street was voted Best Main Street by Parade Magazine, and the historic Town Square offers boutiques, restaurants, and even a restored train at the depot. It’s the perfect way to spend a day exploring before visiting The Sewing House to stock up on all your sewing needs.
